SUMMARY:Renaissance of Sanskrit in Lahore
DESCRIPTION:Home » EventsOverviewSanskrit (literally ‘polished’ or ‘refined’) is a beautiful language of classical times. The sound\, script\, grammar and orderly nature of Sanskrit makes it one of the most charming languages of the world. There is a large body of literature written in Sanskrit\, with texts in philosophy\, science\, art\, music\, phonology\, mathematics\, architecture\, logic and much more. Interestingly\, the home of Classical Sanskrit is said to be the Northern Punjab and Swat valley in Pakistan. Panini\, (600/500 BC) a Punjabi from Taxila (Takshshila)\, a few kilometers north of Islamabad\, wrote his famous book Ashtadhyaya\, the first ever book of grammar of Classical Sanskrit and linguistics in the recorded history. \nThere was a rich scholarly tradition of Sanskrit studies in Lahore before the partition of India. Oriental College Punjab University\, Government College\, and Forman Christian College were the major centers of Sanskrit studies. Dr. Alfred Woolner of Punjab University\, Dr. Leitner of Government College and Swami Ram Tirth of Forman Christian College were great scholars of Sanskrit. There were great collections of Sanskrit books and manuscripts in these institutions. \nUnfortunately\, this whole tradition of Sanskrit Studies gradually died and now dust is eating these rare Sanskrit books in Lahore. \nIs it possible to rekindle the light of knowledge? \nBOOK SLOT NOW\n\n\n\n\nDetails\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSuitable for:\n14 years and above (children and adults)\n\n\nDuration:\n3rd June – 7th August 2024 (9 weeks)\n\n\nDay and Time:\n06:00 – 7:30 PM (online on google meet + in-person at center) \nMonday and Wednesday (2 classes a week)\n\n\nInvestment:\n35\,000 PKR (complete course\, all materials provided) \n25% Discount to Students (please contact on our whatsapp for discount)\n\n\n\n\nBOOK SLOT NOWIntroduction to Classical Sanskrit-IThis is the first in a series of courses aimed at introducing Classical Sanskrit. Students will also be introduced to the historical\, cultural\, and religious context of the Sanskrit language. \nLearning OutcomesBy the end of the course students should be able to: \n\nread and write Devanagari script\ntranscribe text in Devanagari script into Roman script and the vice versa\nunderstand common grammatical features of the Sanskrit language\ndevelop basic reading comprehension and a working vocabulary of essential nouns and verbs.\ntranslate simple Sanskrit sentences.\n\nBOOK SLOT NOWBOOK SLOT NOWOffering and Trainer ProfileDr. Shahid Rasheed\nDr. Shahid Rasheed is a sociologist with multidisciplinary interests including classical languages.
