Overview

Professor Altaf Hussain Nizami was known in local circles as “Guru”, primarily because he nurtured, mentored and developed the youth of Jhelum and surrounding districts of three generations to become economically successful, politically progressive, and compassionate human beings. He was very well read, and taught Urdu all his working life in rural schools and colleges, and spent most of his time with the downtrodden rural people around him. Yet he was fearless, and could take on people like the Governor of Punjab in a public meeting.  He left behind a large circle of friends, admirers and followers spread across the globe.  His autobiography is a graphic depiction of the last 70+ years of Pakistan.
