Overview

Aangun hosts Seeds of Peace and the US Consulate General, Karachi to present the Kitnay Duur Kitnay Paas

The Kitnay Duur Kitnay Paas initiative brings together digital storytellers from Pakistan and India to make films against the backdrop of a very fragile cross-border collaborative climate. Synopsis of Films

Film 1: Eik Tha Kabootar

When a beloved prize pigeon from Pakistan winds up on the wrong side of the border and is arrested for espionage, his distraught owner makes a desperate plea to the prime minister of India for the pigeon’s release. Based on a true story, it is a humorous tale of a human-animal relationship that encourages critical thinking about man-made constructs of borders and nationalist identity. The film questions the absurdity of the act of protecting the integrity of these imaginary lines over human dignity and a bird’s freedom.

Film 2: Assi Nabbe Puray Sou

Assi Nabbe Puray Sou unfolds the adventures of a family that is in disarray after their great grandmother’s prized photograph burns and her health deteriorates. In a desperate attempt to save her and her property, the family unravels the truth hidden in their mother’s archives.

With comical twists, emotional movements, and mysteries to unfold, at the film’s core is an honest friendship between Amma from India and Tej Singh from Pakistan.

Film 3: When Jay Met Ammar

Many young people in India and Pakistan grew up hearing stories from older generations of the great wealth they claim to have left behind when the partition forced them to migrate. In this story, we meet Ammar from Pakistan, who calls on the Indian student Jay for urgent help in recovering what could be a left-behind treasure. Exploring a historical phenomenon in a dramatic journey, the film exhibits the overarching idea of the Indo-Pak bond, and the trust and deep-rooted connection among the people of India and Pakistan that itself, is also often hidden, but not unretrievable.
